Although exercising can be fun all year round, there is nothing quite like exercising in the summer. Here are 5 inventive ball games that you, your family and your friends, should get into this summer to keep healthy and active.
Beach or backyard cricket is an informal version of regular cricket. The equipment for backyard cricket can be purchased or improvised. The rules of the game are loosely based on the game of cricket. There are generally two teams, which alternate between fielding and batting. The game continues for either a set amount of time or set number of bowls. The team with the most points at the end wins.
Beach volleyball is played with two teams of two players each on a sand court divided by a net. The aim of the game is to send the ball over the net into the opponent’s court, while preventing your opponents from doing the same. The ball is served and then can be touched three times before it is returned over the net. The rally continues until the ball goes out, or is incorrectly returned. If playing informally, the game can continue until a set amount of points or a set time limit.
The aim of touch footy is to travel down the opponent team’s part of the field and score touchdowns by placing the ball down in the touchdown zone. The attacking team has to run forward but pass the ball backwards to their teammates who run slightly behind them. Instead of tackling the ball carrier, the defenders must simply touch them. After six touches the ball is given to the opposition. The game can continue for a set time or set score.
This game is a quick and easy variation of regular basketball. To play this game you two or more players and two basketballs. The players line up in two lines along the foul line and the first two players are given a ball. The first player is then allowed to shoot. If the ball goes in the second person is “knocked-out”, but if the ball bounces off the backboards, the second player shoots. This is continued until there is only one player left after knocking out all other competitors.
Soccer golf focuses on judging the impact needed to accurately propel a ball to a target. All you need to do is place down a number of towels in various positions. The aim of the game is to putt (kick) the soccer ball, until it reaches and settles on the towel in focus. Each person attempts each hole (towel) and records the number of strokes (kicks) it takes to get the ball there. The person with the lowest score at the end of the course wins.
