The Story of Anne

Yes, it is quite a used copy of the book but it’s impact is so deep to me and I am sure to a number of others as well.

I have only read excerpts of Anne Frank’s “The Diary of a Young Girl” during my school days but thanks to a friend, I had the chance to read the whole book this time.

The book chronicles how Anne, her family and some close family friends (all of them Jews) lived during the German occupation of the Netherlands during World War II.  Perhaps the right word really is not how they lived during such a time but how they hid and survived for 2 years until they were betrayed. They were then sent into concentration camps. All of them died, including Anne, only her father survived. It was through his efforts that the story of Anne was published. It has been a subject of plays and movies.

It is an amazing story. It is painful, of course, to read how limited and difficult their time was while in hiding but I so appreciate Anne’s insights during such a time. Reading the story also makes one appreciate the freedom one has to live in one’s own country and even the normalcy of day-to-day living.

Anne died when she was 15 but her story lives on challenging us to appreciate what we have and respecting those who are different from us.

  1. I have heard of her story and the book. I learned about it on Travel Challenge I believe when Samantha Brown went to the place were they hid behind the bookshelves. It was amazing how a young girl even for the situation they were in remained strong and wrote the story about their life. What a tough life that must have been for them and we don’t really fully know, understand and feel, but thank goodness to her book that she let us in on the story of her life. Thanks for linking up. Hope to see you again!

I have watched a documentary about this book and the writer. Wish to find a copy soon, try naku sa mga Thrift Stores. I don’t have a lot of time to just sit down and read, but often, I grab a book and spend even just 5 to 10 minutes reading. When it’s our first love, we always go back to it. 😀
