5 Fun Ideas for Throwing an Office Party

You don’t have to wait until Christmas to throw an office party; a spot of spontaneous revelry is always good for staff morale, no matter what time of year it is. Before you send that group email invite though, there are a couple of things to prepare. Hire some caterers to take care of the food, line up a professional company like AMC Commercial Cleaning to clean up the aftermath, and – most importantly – choose a theme for the event. Read on for some great office party ideas.

1. To Drink or Not to Drink

There are two schools of thought when it comes to supplying alcohol at the office party. Some say ‘definitely yes’ while others say ‘absolutely not.’ Why not strike a balance and serve plenty of alcoholic beverages as well as a wide variety of soft drink alternatives? When deciding whether or not to allow alcohol at your office party, it’s important to assess the situation and your colleagues carefully. Do you have any knowledge of how they react to a few drinks? If your team is known to relax after some alcohol, including it could be a great idea. If any staff members have an aggressive streak that is amplified by it, consider ruling it out.

2. Desert Island Theme

There’s nothing more hilarious than seeing usually hard-nosed, straight-laced line managers in a fake grass skirt and coconut bikini, so make sure that everyone gets into the spirit of things with inflatable parrots, blow-up palm trees and plenty of tropical fruit punch.

3. Any Kind of Fancy Dress

There are two types of people when it comes to fancy dress: those who get totally into it and spend weeks making their costumes and those who just can’t be bothered. Be sure to provide all staff with plenty of notice and keep the pressure on by offering a massive first prize for the best costume. Everyone secretly loves a fancy dress party, so you’re practically guaranteed that everyone will enjoy the party.

4. Your Favourite Theme

You could be totally selfish and just go with a theme that ties in with something that you really like. It could be Game of Thrones or Star Trek, it could be James Bond or Downton Abbey but, whatever it is, if you go with a theme that ties into something you love, you know you’re going to have fun at least. And you’ve probably already got a costume to match, right?

5. Wizards and Witches

Magical themed parties are the best! Admit it: you’ve often called your boss a witch under your breath and now you can make it literally so by convincing them to dress up as one. How many of your colleagues will you struggle to recognise when they’re disguised as wizards, witches, fairies, goblins, Harry Potters, and Voldemorts? Someone is sure to drink too much wine and then attempt to turn their superiors into toads. Hilarious… maybe.
